Japanese captions in Adobe Premiere Pro

Caption Plug v1.1.3 transcribed three held-out 日本語 speech clips locally, then exposed the transcript for correction before animated clips, editable Premiere captions, or SRT export.

Live product render using the language sample—not a prerecorded mock-up. Inspect shaping, line breaks, punctuation, and word activation before delivery.

observed local output

Line breaks are normalized for display. Compare wording character by character; punctuation and casing are included in the visible evidence.

Punctuation and encoding

  • Review full-width punctuation and quotation marks in the final font.
  • Latin acronyms and numerals can change bidirectional-looking spacing even in LTR layout.

Line breaks and word timing

  • Japanese does not use spaces consistently, so word-by-word visual timing depends on model segmentation.
  • Break by semantic phrase and avoid starting lines with closing punctuation.

Fonts tested or recommended

  • Noto Sans JP (install separately)
  • Yu Gothic on Windows
  • Hiragino Sans on macOS

Names and specialist vocabulary

  • Kanji substitutions can remain grammatical while changing meaning.
  • Foreign names may switch between Katakana spellings.

dialect and market scope

What this test does not prove

  • The benchmark used Japan Japanese.
  • Dialect, casual contractions, and mixed English need native review; bundled font coverage is not claimed.
  • Three clean benchmark clips do not cover noisy rooms, overlapping speakers, every microphone, or every market.
  • For this script, Caption Plug does not claim that every bundled display font is suitable. Install and license a compatible font, then validate the final render.

Relevant markets: Japan.

production workflow

Transcribe locally, correct deliberately, then choose the output

  1. 1Select the audible dialogue clips in Premiere.
  2. 2Set the language to Japanese instead of relying on auto-detect.
  3. 3Correct names, punctuation, segmentation, and every highlighted risk above.
  4. 4Generate animated clips, a native editable track, or UTF-8 SRT.
