Is Caption Plug really a one-time payment?
Yes. $8.99, once. Every preset, every font, the auto-censor, and all v1.x updates are included forever. There is no subscription tier, no monthly plan, no 'pro' upsell. We don't believe captions should be a rental.
How is this different from CapCut or subscription caption tools?
Caption Plug runs inside Adobe Premiere Pro, so you never round-trip your edit through another app or upload your footage to someone's cloud render queue. Captions are placed on your timeline frame-accurately, in your sequence's exact resolution and frame rate. And it costs $8.99 once - most caption SaaS tools charge $20-30 every month for the same job.
Which versions of Premiere Pro does it support?
Adobe Premiere Pro 2020 (version 14) or newer, on both Windows and macOS. It installs as a standard CEP panel: run the one-click installer, restart Premiere, then open Window > Extensions > Caption Plug.
Do I need an API key? What does transcription cost?
Yes - transcription uses Whisper through your own OpenAI or Groq API key (the panel walks you through getting one in about two minutes). Groq's whisper-large-v3 is fast and currently very cheap; a typical short-form clip costs well under a cent. Only the audio you choose is sent for transcription; rendering and placement are fully local.
Are the captions editable afterwards?
Two output modes. 'Animated clips' renders the full per-word animations as transparent PNG-sequence clips - to change a word, fix the transcript and regenerate (fast, transcripts are cached). 'Editable text' creates a native Premiere caption track instead: every caption stays editable in the caption editor and styling lives in Essential Graphics, but per-word animation presets don't apply there - that's a Premiere limitation.
How does the auto-censor (SFW mode) work?
SFW mode masks profanity, sexual, violent, weapon and drug words in your captions (F**k style: first and last letter kept), and can drop a 1 kHz bleep tone on a new audio track over swear and sexual words - it can even cut the original dialogue under each bleep with volume keyframes so only the bleep is audible. Matching is exact-word against curated lists, so clean words like 'class', 'Sussex' or 'document' are never touched. The spoken audio file itself is never modified.
Will captions drift out of sync on long videos?
No. Animated captions are rasterized frame by frame against your sequence's frame rate, so sync is frame-accurate by construction - there are no keyframes to drift. Word timings come straight from Whisper's word-level timestamps.
Can I use Caption Plug on more than one computer?
Your license covers you as a person, not a machine. You can activate Caption Plug on up to 3 of your own computers - enough for a desktop, a laptop, and a studio machine.

Create an account, pay once through Stripe, and your download appears in your account page along with your license key. You'll also get every v1.x update there, free.
Which languages can it caption?
Anything Whisper supports - which is most major languages. Leave the language on auto-detect or set it explicitly in the Transcription section.
Can I use the bundled fonts commercially?
Yes. All 62 bundled caption fonts are free-to-redistribute SIL OFL or Apache licensed faces (the licenses ship with the plugin), so they're safe for monetized and commercial videos.
