Cloud transcription is useful, but it should be a choice
Uploading client dialogue can be inappropriate for embargoed, confidential, or simply unfinished work. Usage-based transcription also makes the true cost of every caption run harder to predict.
Caption Plug's default local provider downloads its multilingual model once and runs on-device. OpenAI and Groq remain optional when their speed or model quality fits a particular job better.

Local timing data that stays useful after transcription
The transcript is cached for that audio and provider configuration. Styling changes and regenerated output can reuse it without repeating the transcription step.
